Part of this was borrowed from an nlp course i took years ago.
basically, we are unaware, for the most part, of our internal emotional states. At best, we often have a vague approximation of being in a 'good mood' or 'optimistic', etc, but it rarely gets more explicit than that. A large part of this is due to the limiting nature of words in the way they denote emotional states. Consider terms like 'love' or 'trepidation' and you can see that there really is no perfectly fixed meaning, as a great deal of these terms are defined according to context and amorphous, vague mental states. Words are maps or representations of a state or thing, they are not the thing itself. Hence, there will always be noise involved in signal transmission, even in our internal states.
One model that can help reduce such areas of confusion is that of a mental cockpit or dashboard. Here, one envisions a dashboard of sorts with a variety of gauges and dials, etc....The setup itself is also influenced by nlp, where various terms occupy specific zones within the mental landscape. So, to begin, lets imagine the feeling of anger, then close the eyes and focus. Where in the mental stage does anger seem to occupy? Here, one would place the gauge for anger, and also a dial that allows for turning up or down this emotion, like a rheostat. Similarly then, one places various emotional gauges and control levers in the appropriate zones. For a trader, suitable gauges might be revenge, impulsiveness, execution, discipline, etc. Also, a screen or readout could be present which will allow for all relevant information concerning a given situation to be retrieved from the memory compartment. These are merely subconscious trigger type tools that allow for control of these emotions, etc, the same as any other trigger. The difference is that these are purposefully selected and utilized. Additionally, they are self reinforcing and will become more effective the more often they are used.
A very wonderful such tool, created by Monroe Institute founder Bob Monroe, is called the 'energy conversion box'. This is a box of your creation, one which to you is like a safe, but with special properties. Anything placed into the box is converted into usable, clean energy and returned to you. It has a heavy lid and a lock. Once an emotional energy, or person, is placed inside, you mentally rotate the box, putting it behind you. As the energy converts, it is not at all unusual to detect a flash from the energy conversion box. This seems to happen more often when placing people or entities inside it rather than simple emotions.
The location of the various instruments and gauges on your mental control panel are not to be selected arbitrarily. Rather, as with nlp, the mind has certain places it likes to put things. So when you think of say, ice cream, that mental construct locates in a different region than something like the emotion of fear, and fear is found in a different local than love, etc. Once you have a general idea of what you want on your control panel, take some time to think of the various objects and where they seem to be located. Then, record this onto paper, making it concrete and now a part of existing reality, anchoring it in the mind. You can then refer to this and change it as need be. It is quite normal to change and tweak the instruments as you go along. For myself, I simply use a golden screen with a few buttons. My intent pulls up the various gauges I desire, and I calibrate them this way. Whatever seems most appropriate to you is the feedback your mind is giving you as to what will work best in that situation. There is no binary 'right or wrong' in the realm of this endeavor.
Here is a rudimentary example. To begin our day, we run a diagnostic and observe the readings given. First, we will observe overall emotional state. The gauge for this reads as 'negative'... We then observe the optimal setting of 10, and using the dial or lever, move the reading until it reads 10. Then we press a button that says 'lock' and set that state permanently in place. Next, we look at the next instrument, which is a bias indicator. This ideal setting is neutral, so perhaps a reading of 0 is the readout we desire. In this case, it reads +7, or 'green' or whatever symbol you relate to as denoting bullish...it can be anything that makes sense and is relevant to you. So then, we reach for the adjusting lever, knob, slide, etc, and set it to the correct level, 0. We then lock this in place, and are now in an unbiased mode, allowing us to receive information from the market in an unbiased fashion, or at least a less biased fashion. Perhaps then we move to the mental and processing section. Here, our readout shows that our processing is a bit slow, that we are not as sharp as optimally desired. We then take the appropriate dial, lever, etc, and move it in the direction until the readout shows a very high state of functioning. Then, this is locked in.
One could then move to the panel that regulates the physical. We may have readouts for hunger, tiredness, pain, headaches, etc...any facet of the physical body which we desire to augment. Again, the same steps are taken to create the state most optimal for success.
Next, we will access former superlative states of performance, such as times when you felt excellent. Here, you remember in great detail this state, perhaps in a holograph type image, and then step into that image, completely becoming that part of you that is the ubermensch or higher functioning person. As would an athelete do before a big competition. This is merely bringing up past states of consciousness to influence and pattern present states. The same way you can dwell on times of despair, and become desperate and despondent, here the opposite is done. Then, you use a nearby instrument to lock in this state, and acknowledge it becoming the you who you are right now. Remember, identity is fluid, and it is exactly what you decide it to be. Whether this is done by default or by purposeful intent, the creation of it is your power alone.
Should any negativity, etc, present itself during the day, you merely place it, and the source of it, into the energy conversion box, and adjust accordingly the gauges and instruments required to return you to a state of optimal performance.
feel free to experiment with these techniques. they are not my own, i did not create them, but i can tell you that you will get some very interesting results by using them.
a great freedom is realized when you understand it is not necessary to understand how a thing works in order to receive the benefits from it......
enjoy.
