List of Excuses for Qutting Trading

November 11th, 2009

Here is a recent list of  excuses traders have used to quit trading room.

I need to make some home improvements.
We need to help our son select a college.
My wife lost her job.
We are taking a two week vacation.
I am not a good trader; I will return when I have learned how to trade successfully.
A personal situation has come up.
My mother has gotten ill.
I need knee surgery and can not move about
My father died.
I have to leave the country.
We are thinking of getting a pet.
My computer broke.
A friend told me that trading is not a profitable business.
My wife does not like me home all day.
There are too many distractions.
My boss discovered my trading on company time and wanted to fire me.
I assumed that you would call the trades so I would not have to learn how to trade.
I signed into the trading room for a whole month and only made $375.00. This is not worth it.
I made $5,000.00 in my first month of trading, but I got called back at my job where I was laid off.

Is your goal to become a professional trader? If so, we can’t just give up at the drop of a hat. This is what seperates some of us from WORLD CLASS competition.  Here is a video that really conveys this idea even more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSRu6CaJd_g

Faaaaaaaaaaaast Data!

October 16th, 2009

Hi Guys,

One of our users in the room (Duke)  spent all night testing tick data from CME/CBOT from Zenfire / eSignal / DTN IQ / OEC…….

Guess what…!

Zenfire sends fast and the cleanest CBOT data among these…

Keep that inmind when grabbing your data feeds!

PureTick Track Record Analysis

October 8th, 2009

From user:  HJ

I was looking at the data from the “Track Record” page on your web site for 2009.  As we head into the 2nd half of 2009 I just wanted to pass on to you some stats I discovered based on the official calls.  Maybe you already know all of this but I found it interesting and impressive.
(Based on 125 trading days in 2009)

  • Did you know there is a 34.4% (1 in 3) chance that on any given trading day Alex will NOT call a single losing play. (in 125 trading days 43 of these days registered “0″ losing plays!!)
  • Did you know there is a 86.6% chance that Alex will NOT call back to back (2) or more losing trades in a row on any given day. (43 days with NO losing trades + 65 days where a single losing trade was then followed by a winning trade on the same day – NO consecutive losing trades on the same day).
  • Did you know there is only a 4.0% chance that Alex will call back to back to back (3) or more losing trades in a row on any given day. (in 125 trading days, Alex called 3 losing trades in a row on a given day on 3 of the 125 days, and 4 losing trades in a row on 2 of the 125 days!!!!)
  • Did you know there is only a  1.6% chance that Alex will call 4 losing trades in a row on any given day. (in 125 trading days this only happened on 2 of the 125 days!!!! – Never did Alex call 5 losing trades in a row.)
  • Did you know Alex’s risk reward ratio on scalps is approx 3.2:1  (swing trades were not factored in)

Anyway, still learning and as always trying to wrangle up some capital to get in this game.  When looking at the results in this light it can really get a person excited!

Thanks,
hj

Alex On Radio Show Oct 10th

Skips setups, experience in Puretick and hot tips!

October 6th, 2009

You guys asked for my setups, here they are…..very simple

Two setups……
on both setups I use 4 contracts with a 30 tick stop and take 1/2 off at 10, 1/4 off at 15 and final 1/4 target at 30.  The final target  is totally discetionary for more or less than the 30.
When the first target is hit I move the stop from -30 to -10 and when second target is hit move stop to break even.

set up 1)
RSI Divergence
have 50 Tick YM chart with an RSI indicator set to 80 and 20…(stock TS indicator set at 30 + 70) to detect real extreme.  Put alert on the 20 and 80 lines   Let RSI hit the extreme line and note price.  Let  price bounce and wait for it to press back lower/higher noting position of RSI.  If RSI doesn’t reach the extreme but price goes beyond original extreme you have divergence.  Use in conjunction with $TICK extreme.  Always better with support or resistance.

set up 2)
Pivots
use daily and weekly……use Woodies from mypivot.com or calculate yourself
do not bother with mid pivots or monthly pivots
place limit order 5 ticks in front of pivot
will take second stab at any pivot if ticks at extreme and rsi pegged

couple notes:

these two setups work for me, every trader is different and is successful in different setups and styles……test your setups, there are thousands of combos, make sure they work…..if you think you can do this by feel…..forget it……that is reserved for only the very best and even then only with years of screen time.

test these setups on sim for 2 wks minimum……I firmly believe you can only trade with confidence if you are confident ( I mean you absolutely know) your setup has a positive profit expectation…that means test it.

Alex is the man but I do not have his expertise particularly with tape reading or mkt presence/feel so I take very few of his calls.  That being said, I only take calls I am absolutley comfortable with that fit my trading profile and I see coming.  Many times our thoughts coincide.  Other times I fade his calls when they press into my setups…this does happen frequently.  We are not competing….he would be cashing out of a trade and I will be taking his contracts at what I consider an exhaustion point with support/resistance..

Like Alex have had numerous gurus and have learned something from all of them.  Alex helped me put the piece of the puzzle together that made me profitable.  He helped me with getting a feel for the market direction with his charts, time frames, and MAs that I never had.  Also even more importantly the concept of PANIC and where to look for it.

I am working hard to incorporate Alex trades in my repertoire as I see how well he does every day.

Been futures trading for 26 months now…..16 months abjectly RED, 6 with nose at water line and the last  4, since joining Puretick room, GREEN.  First 3 months of 2009 had only 3 RED days…March 100% GREEN. an absolute miracle.  Editors note….unfortunately April already have 3 RED days but doing well, still a miracle in my book.

I now only trade 9:45 to noon, get away from computer for DZ, come back refreshed for 2 to 3:30.  If I am green I shut down at 3:30. no question….too important for me to be psychologically strong  at end of day looking forward to next days adventure.  I have been averaging approx $600-$700 net per day and even with a $100 positive at 3:30 I am out.  Have spent way too many late afternoons chasing, reversing and damaging my psyche.

Couple nuggets learned hard way:
No chasinge
First 15 minutes, DZ and last 1/2 hr are psyche trashers and indicators are worthless
Know your stop before entering trade
Take your stop…..every time
Know your trade….if you don’t know why you are taking it….don’t
Learn to trade one thing before you try to trade everything
MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL
Sim till you know you have a good setup and can execute it profitably

good luck,
Skip
