PureTick Head Trader/Advisor: Alex Wasilewski
Name in the Room: AlexLW
Years Trading: 30
Phone Consult Rate: $400/Hour
Location: Destin, Florida
Alex Wasilewski aka AlexLW, our head trader in the live room, and co-founder has a rich and eclectic background that might more easily have been described by what he has not done. Alex has had a wide variety of jobs: IRS Auditor, NY Cop, Stock Broker, Truck Driver, Bar owner and various other things you may not believe! He's seen it all and is strongly in tune with 'herd' psychology.
Alex strongly believes that the keys to trading success are alive and present in ALL traders. He believes that what you program in your subconscious is far more important than what you program into a computer. Your personal will can conquer any obstacle. Alex has been an outstanding investor over the long term in individual stocks, and short term day trading.
Experiences such as that have contributed to Alex's philosophy of trading. To become successful, emulate the habits of a losing trader who became successful, rather than study those who won lotteries.
“As most successful and honest advisors will tell you, first all newbie’s lose money. Then they learn to break even. Then they discover the magic of discipline, a high probability method, and personal positive psychology. AND THE NEWBIE BECOMES A PRO.” – – Alex Wasilewski
PureTick Advisor: Michael "Tiny" Saul
Phone Consult Rate: $300/Hour
Michael “Tiny” Saul started his trading career 16 years ago, after receiving an advertisement in the mail about learning to trade commodities. As soon as he saw charts for the first time, he was hooked. Tiny left the “secure life” of a corporate job to pursue trading full time in 1999. Less than one year later, he was recruited to help start what would be one of the biggest trading chat rooms and educational websites on the interweb.
Tiny has appeared on over one dozen videos and DVDs that have sold more than 300,000 copies in total. Tiny has taught tens of thousands of traders in his 12 year career through live seminars, webinars, and personal one on one coaching. Considered an expert in technical analysis, Tiny has consulted for money management firms, hedge funds, prop firms, and investment banks.
Tiny lives in New Jersey with his wife of 12 years and their three sons. He does not have a nanny.
PureTick Advisor: John Carlson
Name in the Room: JC
Years Trading: since 1975
Phone Consult Rate: $165/Hour
Location: New Jersey
John Carlson has been trading and investing since 1975. When he sold his business of 23 years, in 2005, he became a real estate agent and a stock trader. The trading was going great for the first couple years, then, in the fall of 07, the stock market began to crumble. (so did the real estate market) At that point Carlson quickly realized that anyone could be a good trader in a strong, bull market. In November, 2007 he got out of all his long positions and became a 'day trader'.
Like many traders Carlson asked himself, “What should I do? Where do I start? What should I trade?” After reading books and articles, attending seminars, joining chat rooms, and trying tools like indicators, or this chart or that chart or multiple charts and still not turning a consistent profit trading – he knew that he needed something different. In June 2009, Carlson joined the PureTick room and finally, all the things he had learned, over the past couple years, started to make sense.
“Thru Alex's teaching, the indicators and charts were starting to make sense. Consistent sense. Repeatable patterns and set ups. I thought, wow, it is possible,” explains Carlson. “I will be happy to work with you to achieve you goals and shorten your learning curve. We can discuss topics, as entry, exit, stops, contract size, profit targets, charts, support, resistance, journal keeping, rules, discipline, patients, self confidence, understanding probability, getting ready for your trading day, or any subject you wish.”
PureTick Advisor: Geoff Lay
Co-Founder/IT Specialist
Name in the Room: CajunDragon
Years Trading: 7
Location: Las Vegas, Nevada
Geoff Lay has been trading for 7 years. He started out your typical newbie trader, spending hours reading every book he could get his hands on, chasing entries, chasing false prophets and, seeking the "holy grail" using new trading systems, with hard earned capital.
He met Alex six years ago while in an online day trading chat room. Together they would discuss daily trades and strategies. Since Alex was a professional and doing so well, Lay suggested that he share his knowledge and experience of the market with other struggling newbies. Since that time, Lay has played a pivotal role in creating and launching what has come to be known as PureTick.com.
“We all share the common desire to help new traders turn a profit while also learning ourselves to become more consistent and skillful in our own trading. We endeavor to use our experiences, both good and bad, to assist new traders in substantially cutting their learning curve in terms of time and costs.”
PureTick Advisor: Reven Wood
Name in the Room: RevenW
Years Trading: 5
Phone Consult Rate: $225/Hour
Location: Prineville, Oregon
Reven Wood has been a trader for five years and his interest in the stock market began when he was 18 years old. As the night stocker at Fred Meyer (a local grocery store) he would take his break at 5 AM and watch some random news program that had a ticker on the bottom. So, he began writing the ticker symbols down and went home to look them up. He then joined a random independent broker and some random free chat room. In this chat room, there was a man who made trading look easy; every trade was a winner, so it seemed.
After realizing it was much more difficult than it appeared, his interest exploded and he began living and breathing the stock market and much more importantly, the psychology of supply and demand. For four years, he was a personal financial analyst for a very large company and saw the many tricks of the retail side of investing. He joined that company to gain further knowledge and skills for trading, but eventually decided that sales, wasn’t what he was looking for in a job.
After floundering around through small account, after small account and chat room to chat room, he stumbled across Puretick.com in the fall of 2007. He was in the room for about 2 months before blowing out yet another small account. After life changing events in his family life, Wood decided that it was time for him to step up to the plate and stop making excuses as to why he was not in the profession in which he wanted to be: A PROFESSIONAL FUTURES DAY TRADER.
He came back to Puretick in early 2010 and decided to make one last attempt at living his dream. He began falling into the same INSANITY in his trading practices and once again became so frustrated he was about to quit.
“Being the professional that Alex is, and through tough love (and respect), he had to tell me what my ego didn’t want to hear. GO ON SIM for at least 7 days. Those were possibly the best words of advice I have ever received, it was my hidden Holy Grail.”
Wood began to religiously trade on the simulator, solely to focus on disciplined, non-emotion based trading and money management. Slowly, he added live trades with one contract to the full time SIM trading. Eventually, he got over the fear of putting on a trade and hesitation.
He is now successfully trading multiple contract positions profitably and truly believes that “with the correct guidance, mentorship, and journaling your simulated trades, I can help anyone become the best trader possible.”
